Getting it Done... Florida Studio Theatre

Project Description

Florida Studio Theatre’s tenured presence within the Sarasota performing arts community created the need for them to renovate their existing 96 year old Gompertz Theatre and add an additional 18,000 square feet creating a new 24,000 square foot performing arts facility. The new addition included a cabaret theatre, lab theatre, dressing rooms, and retail spaces as well as a kitchen and dining area.

The nearly century old Gompertz Theatre was fully renovated, with only the existing exterior walls and roof remaining. Structural remediation’s included the installation of building foundation grouting/underpinning, new flooring systems, demolition and structural shoring for new openings within existing brick exterior walls. The interior included a new production booth, seating risers, lighting system and interior finishes.

The new addition of the project was CMU construction with a stucco veneer to match the existing Gompertz Theatre. Ornate wood trim work was installed throughout to maintain the classic theme of the old-time performing arts Architecture. Both the New Addition and Gompertz Renovation were opened on time, and within budget for eager audiences ready to attend Florida Studio Theatre’s renowned performances.
